Dear RMHCCF Family,

This past year was the most rewarding of my career. When I was offered the opportunity to join this extraordinary team in January of 2022, I was exceedingly grateful and deeply humbled. It is a true honor to be a part of a mission that has served over 40,000 families the last 26 years.

Serving as the Chief Encouragement Officer has brought so much joy to me and my family. We feel the comfort, closeness, and care that is offered to our guests, just in a different way. One mom, Khushi, who stayed with us this year told our team, “Despite all the hardships we’re going through, Ronald McDonald House Charities of Central Florida has been a great support and given us a reason to smile through the process.” That one sentence carries a weight of meaning that is hard to describe.

Our organization is truly unique. There are not many organizations that have a global brand coupled with local autonomy. The global mission of Ronald McDonald House Charities and its focus on family-centered care has impacted millions of people over the last 49 years. We are eager to celebrate the 50 year anniversary of Ronald McDonald House Charities in 2024.

Over the last year, we developed our four strategic imperatives: Dream Team, Sustainability, Strategic Partnerships, and World Class Experiences. We have solicited and garnered great insights from our team members, our Board of Directors, community partners and leaders, families, other RMH chapters, and other stakeholders. We have made great strides, utilizing these human capital resources, in our goal to become Central Florida’s Charity of Choice.

Lowell Milken said, “…. the most important lesson I have learned is that there is one currency that always plays the key role in forming value, and that is human capital-the knowledge, skills, and experiences of people.” Ronald McDonald House Charities of Central Florida is accomplishing its mission because of the skilled and generous human capital our team and community provide. Thank you for sharing your wisdom and efforts with us.

The families we serve and our team continue to be blessed beyond measure by your generosity, volunteer efforts, leadership, and sharing our mission with others. Thank you to each of our donors, Cornerstone Society Members, Key Initiative Committee, Board of Directors, Share A Meal volunteers, house and event volunteers, and sponsors for all you do every day in contributing positively to the overall health of these children and their families.

The best way to understand all that our team does is to experience it for yourself! We invite you to participate in a Keeping Families Close® tour of our houses or a night of volunteering with our Share A Meal program. Mejia Germosen family

My husband and I are from the Dominican Republic. We have been living in the US for the past 7 years. My baby and I are US Citizens and my husband is a US resident. I arrived at the hospital at week 21 because I had dilated 5 centimeters. Doctors at the time were not too positive with the outcome because at 21 weeks babies don’t usually make it.

I stayed at the hospital with faith that my baby would come to this world healthy. Baby Tessa was born on week 23 at 1 pound 7 ounces. The medical staff was positively surprised that she was not born with serious medical issues or long lasting conditions like they thought she might be. She was truly a miracle baby. We stayed at the Ronald McDonald House at the Jacksonville location throughout the duration of baby Tessa’s stay at the NICU – 5 nerve wrecking months. During this time Tessa had multiple blood transfusions and oxygen levels were unstable. After all her levels improved, miraculously with no negative effects to her overall health and development a G-Tube had to be surgically placed. This slowed her feeding by mouth process, reason why now she must receive intensive feeding therapy at the Nemours Hospital in Orlando. Our stays at the Ronald McDonald House are extremely helpful for us and baby Tessa. It helps us be closer to her hospital and staff so she is being able to receive her treatments when she needs them the most. The staff at The Ronald McDonald Houses have genuinely made us feel at home when we are away from ours making these trying times more bearable. After our stays at the Ronald McDonald House, we understand and support the invaluable, lifesaving assistance that this foundation is conducting in our communities, bringing young patients and their parents, all over the US, closer to their doctors and the medical assistance they so direly need.

Volunteer Spotlight

I moved to Orlando in 1969 and graduated from Boone High School. Then, I went into the military for 20 years and moved back to Orlando. After retiring years later, I started to volunteer at AdventHealth in 2007 and then Ronald Mcdonald House Charities of Central Florida in 2017.

On Thursdays, I get a list of supplies needed for the Family Resource Center at the hospital. Supplies, such as snack packs, toiletry kits, sodas, coffee, and more are donated from volunteers and organizations. I take all the supplies over to the Family Resource Center so that the families have access to snacks and basic necessities.

I like helping out and learning the behind the scenes of how organizations work. If you could give back a little bit of your time, it just seems to make things easier for people, making it a little less stressful, and it just makes me feel good to help somebody out.

With the house here, we relieve some of that worry and wonder that families may have such as, how am I going to pay for a place to live, how am I going to pay for food, let alone where am I going to stay. If we can take that need or stress away from them by providing them a room, with access to a kitchen to make their own meals while being able to come and go as they please, it relieves some of the pressure that they have to worry about besides their child being in the hospital. If we can take that stress away and make their life a little easier during that time, that’s great.” Volunteering is an easy thing to do because it’s nothing you have to learn. Just give your time to someone else. It makes you feel good.
