As we reflect on 2025, we are filled with gratitude for the compassion, generosity, and unwavering commitment that the community has provided Ronald McDonald House Charities of Central Florida.

This year has been one of both meaningful impact and thoughtful transition. Together, we have remained steadfast in our mission to provide comfort, care, and essential support to families with critically ill children – ensuring they stay close to what matters most: each other.

Because of you, 1,842 families found not only a place to stay, but a place of hope. Within our Houses, moments of uncertainty were met with warmth, dignity, and compassion. Whether through a warm meal, a quiet night’s rest, or the support of a caring community, every touchpoint reflected the strength of our shared purpose.

2025 underscored the importance of strong governance and forward-thinking leadership. As we look ahead, we are committed to building a solid foundation – ensuring that RMHCCF remains resilient, impactful, and positioned for long-term growth in service to the families that depend on us.

None of this would be possible without you – stakeholders, volunteers, corporate and hospital partners, foundations, Board of Directors, and dedicated staff.

As we move into the future, we do so with clarity, purpose, and optimism. Together, we will continue to create a place where families can find comfort, strength, and hope – when they need it most. As we enter 2026, we are focused on strengthening our programs and operations while deepening our relationships with hospital partners, stakeholders, and volunteers. We remain steadfast in enhancing the family experience, expanding community engagement, and reinforcing the operational excellence that sustains our mission every day.

Family Stories

Pereira Family

We are the Pereiras, and we became a Ronald McDonald House family in June 2022 when our daughter, Olivia, was born with severe urological conditions that led to kidney failure. Olivia spent her first 55 days in the NICU at Orlando Health Winnie Palmer Hospital and underwent major surgery at just one day old. Living two hours from home and unable to sleep by her side, RMH allowed us to stay within walking distance of the hospital—often making late night runs when emergencies arose.

“Throughout Olivia’s frequent hospital admissions, out-of-state reconstruction surgeries in Colorado, and ultimately her kidney transplant at just 2.5 years old, RMH was our constant. Today, Olivia continues intensive therapies and follow-up care made possible because RMH keeps our family close. RMH is more than a place to stay, it is a loving, judgment free home that allows families like ours to focus on healing, not hardship. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you.”

My name is Rebecca de Mitchell, and this is my partner, Montello. We are incredibly grateful for the generous support of the Ronald McDonald House. We have been staying here for five months after arriving in early December, shortly after our daughter, Matilda, was born 10 weeks early on November 24. Since then, we have been by her side in the NICU at AdventHealth.

“Matilda was diagnosed with Beckwith-Wiedemann Syndrome, a growth disorder that led to complications during pregnancy and an emergency transfer from Melbourne to Orlando. This intervention saved both our lives. While Matilda has faced many challenges, the care from AdventHealth and the support of RMH have made all the difference. Because of RMH, we were able to stay close to our daughter during these critical months without worrying about housing or meals. Those moments together have been invaluable. This journey would not have been possible without the Ronald McDonald House. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.“

Hunt Family

My name is Melissa Hunt, and this is my daughter, Taylor. We traveled from North Carolina to receive care from a world-renowned limb lengthening specialist, Dr. Sean Standard. Taylor has fibular hemimelia, a condition that causes a leg length discrepancy due to differences in bone growth. Despite these challenges, she runs, jumps, and plays like other kids—sometimes in her own unique way.

“Having a safe, comforting place to stay at Ronald McDonald House has made all the difference for our family. With meals and support provided, we can focus fully on Taylor’s healing instead of worrying about daily logistics. Because of generous donors like you, families like ours are able to prioritize recovery, resilience, and letting kids be kids. We are eternally grateful for the care, comfort, and opportunity Ronald McDonald House has given us.”

Young Men’s Service League

Group Volunteering Spotlight

Young Men’s Service League (YMSL) is a dedicated volunteer group who support Share-A-Meal, Baking Buddies, and specialized projects year-round. In 2025, YMSL participated in 21 volunteer events, and through their model of young men serving alongside their mothers, provided comfort and care to families.

“Every time I walk into the Ronald McDonald House, I can’t help but feel like I’m appreciated. The people are friendly, everyone seems to be having fun, and I never feel alone with my fellow volunteers. Above all, the reason I volunteer is because I truly get to see the families I am helping.”

Kelley Davis shared that volunteering with RMHCCF is rooted in empathy, gratitude, and a desire to give back to an organization that provides comfort, stability, and hope when it is needed most. One of her most meaningful experiences has been participating in Baking Buddies as a family. They enjoy bringing a little bit of happiness and joy during an otherwise stressful time. Kelley also shared how accessible the opportunity was for her son and other teens, and how proud he felt after completing the project.

Sue Martin

Individual Volunteering Spotlight

Since 2018, Sue Martin has been a consistent and caring In-House volunteer at the Ronald McDonald Houses.

From restocking the kitchens, to cleaning the common areas, to being a sympathetic ear, Sue is intentional with every small detail that makes the Houses a comfortable environment for families. Sue volunteers so that she can “support families through trying times by offering an ear to listen, a smile of compassion and doing what I can to make their stay at our house more like a home.”

In addition to volunteering and helping with the day-to-day needs in the Houses, Sue and her husband Roger also support the families financially by being Adopt-A-Room sponsors during 2025. By adopting a room, Sue and Roger helped to underwrite the operating costs of the room, keeping stays completely free for the guest families and allowing them to be there during their child’s medical care.

Elena Hoelscher & Jora

Pet Therapy Spotlight

This year, Elena and Jora began volunteering with the Pet Therapy Program at the Ronald McDonald House on the campus of Nemours Children’s Health, quickly becoming a consistent source of comfort and joy for guest families.

Elena believes that it is the home environment that makes Jora feel at home with the families on her visits. Whether Elena is teaching children a trick with Jora or a parent finds comfort in Jora’s presence, this pet therapy team brings warmth and support to every family they meet.

“It was our first day at Ronald McDonald House, when I knew this was the perfect fit for Jora. A little girl came in the front door and asked if she could meet Jora. They hit it off, and as she was headed down the hall toward her room, it was so cute to see Jora sit there and watch until she was out of sight. It was a few minutes later, that as Jora was still looking down the hall, we could hear a little voice saying, ‘here I come’, Jora was so excited. It was so cute to see the bond they had formed already from the very first day.”

Hospitality Cart

AdventHealth Winter Park Spotlight

Ronald McDonald House Charities^® of Central Florida Hospitality Cart is an extension service helping to address food insecurity, support physical and psychological well-being, and promote healing. Alongside our local hospital partners, we serve families who are staying at their child’s bedside by providing essential resources of snacks, hygiene kits, comfort items, and activity items.

At AdventHealth Winter Park, the impact of the Hospitality Cart is clear in everyday moments. A young patient arrived very teary eyed and scared about being in the hospital. On the walk back from the lobby, the care team offered him a chance to pick out a toy from the Hospitality Cart before heading to his room. His sad little face lit up when he asked if there was Paw Patrol or Spider-Man. Although both were available, he chose an Etch-A-Sketch, and by the time they reached his room, his tears had nearly dried!
